Members doing Gongyo prayers at the Soni-bo (a lodging Temple at
the Nichiren Shoshu Head Temple. Members from the U.S. and other
Countries were grouped at the Soni-bo. Other groups were lodging
at other bo's or Lodging temples. During Tozan most of our prayers
were performed at the Soni-bo. Early morning we had the option to
do Ushitori Gongyo at 2:30 a.m. with High Priest Nikken Shonin.
This is a typical shot of the Priest doing Gongyo with the overseas members at the
Sonibo. Members from other countries reside at other temples and I assume that the
same this is going on with them. When you attend Tozan the schedule and arranged
and one only have to join in. The Japanese at the Temple do things on time. When
ceremonies are not being performed these same rooms are used for sleeping.
Member who miss Gongyo may go to other rooms where an altar may be opened.

Please understand that this Tozan report is not an
official Nichiren Shoshu Tozan report. I would like
to think of this report more of a personal Tozan
diary than an official report. With this report I
give a single personal perspective. Moreover I
have the opportunity to give a Black perspective
of Tozan. I also make the point clear that my
report does not represent all Black people. Many
Black people take offense with this website
because it is not sanction by the Priest. On the
other hand there are many Black people dying to
read a Black report. This is a cultural Website and
we express our culture and make no apology
about it. If you desire the official August Tozan
report you should refer the Nichiren Shoshu
official website or the Nichiren Shoshu monthly
magazine.
I think I took this shot right after and early
morning prayer. Most American were sitting in
the back of the room.
