Nichiren Daishonin writes in the Gosho: "exert your self in the two ways of practice and study. Without practice and study there can be no Buddhism." Please note when you get an understanding of history people cannot "Bamboozle you."  Many brothers in Buddhism have been Bamboozled.
Please note that many of our Japanese Teachers are running a con game when it comes to getting a "Clear understanding of Buddhism.
I am a five time World Karate/Kicboxing Champion.  When I started Karate in 1970 Karate hero Bruce Lee rejected all of the ceremony in relationship to fighting.  Oriental people practice a culture whereas "ceremony" is mixed in with the teachings.  People confuse "ceremony" with the teachings.  Japanese Buddhist teachers in America mix "Cuture and ceremony" with Buddhism.

The Constitution of the United States of  America is one of the greatest documents ever written. It was Dr. Martin Luther King and others who made America live up to her creeds. "Saint" Nichiren Daishonin taught a great religion in the world for all mankind.  The Japanese who bring this religion to America are not propagating Buddhism in America in the non discriminating  spirit of Nichiren Daishonin. Dr. Martin Luther King called for reforms in America we call for reforms in the teaching of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism in America.

Nichiren Daishoinin writes in the Gosho; The gift of rice. "When the Great Teacher Miao-lo compared these passages with the one from the sixth volume of the Lotus Sutra that reads, “No worldly affairs of life or work are ever contrary to the true reality,” he revealed their meaning and pointed out that although the first two sutras are profound, since their meaning is still shallow and fails to approach that of the Lotus Sutra , they relate secular matters in terms of Buddhism, whereas the Lotus Sutra explains that in the end secular matters are the entirety of Buddhism."
Let me explain to you why you are being given a "con job." The "Lotus Sutra explains that in the end secular matters are the entirety of Buddhism."  Shakymuni Buddha did not deal in "ceremony."  It was the Brahmins in India who conned people with a "Lot of ceremony."  Shakymuni rejected such things in the "Lotus Sutra." Many of our African American minsters have a life directed more in concert with Shakymuni Buddha than our Japanese Priest.  In Buddhism Nichiren Daishonin writes that it is the heart that is important.  Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther  and Nelson Mandela lived a "Buddha existence."
