In America there is not one single African American Nichiren Buddhist Sangha.  Both Nichiren Shoshu and SGI Buddhist sects purposefully dissipated African Americans Sanghas. The page below comes directly from the "Proud Black Buddhist" website.  If Mr. Shaka Khalphani had remained in Nichiren Shoshu he, like other African Americans would be marginalized in the effort to "Integrate African American Culture" offically into their Buddhist practice.  Today we encourage Mr. Khaphani to freely teach Nichiren Buddhism in his community.

The question becomes:  How do we African American brothers take our Buddhist faith?  We can wait on permission from our Japanese Teachers.  We can also call upon the "spirit of our African Buddhist Ancestors" we were the original Buddhist.  The orginal Buddhist were the Africans of Asia.

Our friend Mr. Shaka Khalphani has over 30 years of practice as a "Nichiren Buddhist."  Shaka has one of the most extensive Nichiren Buddhist libraries in the world.  This man has a tremendous amuont of Buddhist knowledge.  I conclude my challenge to not only Mr. Shaka Khalphani.  We African Americans must be the ones who will teach and bring Nichiren Buddhism to our community.  This is our job and not the job of Japanese. The Gosho "Reply to Kyo'o reads:

"But your faith alone will determine all these things. A sword is useless in the hands of a coward. The mighty sword of the Lotus Sutra must be wielded by one courageous in faith. Then one will be as strong as a demon armed with an iron staff. I, Nichiren, have inscribed my life in sumi ink, so believe in the Gohonzon with your whole heart. The Buddha’s will is the Lotus Sutra, but the soul of Nichiren is nothing other than Nam-myoho-renge-kyo."
