My background is that of a five time Karate/Kickboxing champion Black revolutionary thinker who adopted meditative Eastern “Though” as a youth in life. When I encountered the Buddhist teachings of Nichiren Daishonin I encountered Buddhist teachings different from that of the traditional meditative teachings of the orient. This lecture relates to the Nichiren Shoshu Teachings as it relates to the election of Barack Obama as our 44th President of the United States of America. The Gosho of Nichiren Daishonin gives us a direction regarding this historic election.

This lecture is clear to delineate the Buddhism of Nichiren Daishonin with other forms of Buddhism. This lecture goes further and challenges even the esoteric Nichiren Shoshu practices in our sect based of the Gosho of Nichiren Daishonin. The election of Barack Obama as the 1st African/American President of the United States of America is a sign that even we Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist should move to a new and revolutionary phase of teaching and expounding Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism in America.

The election of Barack Obama as the 1st African/American President of the United States of America is a true cultural revolution in America and it is time that Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism emerge into a cultural revolution that brings the profound teachings of Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism into the 21 century.

Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism is profound religious teachings that are inherently ready for the 21st century or the Obama Generation. Let me share some of the Gosho or writings of Nichiren Daishonin that relates to the current events of today.

The Gosho A ship to Cross the Sea of Suffering (our Buddhist Bible) reads; the Daishonin (True Buddha) writes: "If there is someone whether man or woman, who secretly teaches to one person even a single phase of the Lotus Sutra, let it be known that he is the envoy of the Buddha." "This means that anyone who teaches others even a single phase of the Lotus Sutra is clearly the Buddha's envoy, whether he be priest or nun, lay man or woman." I would like to think that based on Nichiren Daishonin's Gosho that our writing this lecture we are acting as the envoy of the Buddha.

Let me get back to my Buddhist lecture on Barack Obama and Buddhism. Nichiren Daishonin the “True Buddha” writes in the Gosho, “The gift of rice;” The true path of life lies in the affairs of this world. The Konkomyo Sutra reads, "To have a profound knowledge of this world is itself Buddhism." The Nirvana sutra reads, "All scriptures or teachings, from whatever source, are ultimately the revelation of Buddhist truth."

Most religions deal with one day going to heaven and finding a place of bliss and wonder after you die but Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism says; The true path of life lies in the affairs of this world and to have a profound knowledge of this world is itself Buddhism. Further the Daishonin writes “All Scripture or teachings, from whatever source, are ultimately the revelation of Buddhist truth.”

The Gosho (Nichiren Daishonin “The True Buddha” Writings) reads: "only Buddhas know the “True entity of all phenomena.. the nature form true entity….. In common everyday lay terms “The phenomena of Barack Obama” can be explained from the stand point of karma. Karma is cause and effect. What does the Gosho or the (Buddhist Bible) say about a man becoming the leader of a nation?

In the Gosho the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin the Gosho “Pure and Far-Reaching Voice” Nichiren Daishonin Writes; “The ruler of a state is someone who in his former existence far excelled others in keeping the great precepts, and as a result heaven and earth and the various deities permitted him to become a ruler. The degree of merit he has acquired through keeping the precepts determines what country he rules. Two or three persons are not chosen to be ruler (but only one), and the deity kings of earth and heaven, of the oceans and mountains, all gather around and protect him. How then could the people of that state turn their backs on their sovereign?” In plain every day terms Barack Obama is where he is because it is a matter of karma or a cause and effect relationship. Karma is caused by “Words, thoughts Action and Deeds”.

The Buddhist teachings of Nichiren Daishonin is an insightful and penetrating teaching that deal with enlightenment and an understanding of life and universal functions. Nichiren Daishonin wrote a concept called “Five Guides for Propagation” and this is a relative merit in order to determine the correct teachings or religion. The five guides for propagation were written by the Daishonin to judge what is the correct religion we will borrow the concept to explain Barack Obama and Buddhism and the idea of a Black man becoming the leader of the most powerful nation in the world. Nichiren Daishonin writes in his Gosho; “Treatise for Protecting the Nation:” “I hope the priests and lay believers will first distinguish the correct teachings from the incorrect ones, and uphold the correct teaching hoping for happiness in the next life.”

1. Teachings ; is the first guide to propagation and Barack Obama suggest a higher and an a more enlighten teachings that accords with the true law. The bringing of science to the White house will open the door Buddhist teachings.

2. Capacity ; this refers to the characteristics and life condition of a people to move beyond race and accept a higher teaching and the future capacity to accept Buddhism is more prevelant.

3. Time ; a Barack Obama could only happen at an idea time or this time. The time for Buddhism in America is now.

4. The Country ; It is only in America that such a phenomena of a Barrack Obama can happen and Buddhist teachings to emerge.

5. The Stage of Propagation ; means that it is time to propagate a higher teaching as Barack Obama is propagating. One example is the fact that Barack Obama's sister Maya Soetor Ng is a Buddhist and the conditions for a Buddhist nation is open.

We told you about 3000 moments of existence and we are breaking this theory down in plain and common terms. All phenomena have “Three Realms of Existence.”

1. The first realm is the realm of the five components; 1. form 2. perception 3. conception 4. volition 5. consciousness

2. The next realm is the realm of Living Beings

3. The third realm is the realm of the environment
These realms are categories of phenomena arising from the unity of causes and conditions and do not operate independently of each other. All phenomena in the universe manifest the character or condition of the ten worlds. The ten world manifest itself in animate as well as inanimate objects. Here are the ten worlds.

1 Hell Physical or mental condition distress

2. Hunger desire

3. Animality or basic instinctual actions

4. Anger rage or passion to overtake

5. Humanity or tranquility peace or calm state

6. Rapture or heaven or Joy

7. Learning the condition of absorbing knowledge or adapting

8. Self realization or absorption in common term learning things by practice.

9. Bodhisattva is our compassionate or loving protecting nature or condition

10. Buddha hood is our highest life condition or enlightenment state.
